EKO HOT BLOG reports that the decision was announced on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting in Akure, the state capital.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the state chairman, Gbenga Akinbuli, said the move was necessary to enforce discipline and reposition the SDP as a credible opposition force in the state.
According to Akinbuli, a review of Akinyan’s conduct revealed serious violations of party ethics. “He was found culpable of sabotage during elections, insubordination, and financial misconduct. The findings were grave and could not be ignored,” the chairman stated.
He added that such behaviour amounted to a gross violation of the party’s trust. “In the wisdom of stakeholders, such conduct cannot coexist with the principles of loyalty and ideological conviction which the SDP stands for,” Akinbuli said.
The party also announced the constitution of a five-man disciplinary committee, chaired by the state legal adviser, to further investigate Akinyan’s actions and determine whether he should retain his membership.
Meanwhile, Femi Ikoyi has been appointed as the new state secretary.
Akinbuli stressed that the dismissal was not merely punitive but part of a broader strategy to purge the party of disloyal elements.

“This is the beginning of a wider effort to rid the SDP of sabotage and infiltration. We are determined to build a party of conviction and loyalty, one that truly represents the aspirations of our people,” he declared.
