Atiku disowns claims suggesting he may not contest.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has confirmed that he will contest Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, dismissing reports suggesting otherwise.
Atiku, who recently aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to downplay the momentum building within the ADC coalition. He vowed that the movement would deliver a major upset in the next election cycle.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking through his former campaign spokesperson, Tunde Olusunle, Atiku said Nigeria must be “decisively rescued from the intensive care unit” where it has been placed under the Bola Tinubu administration. He lamented what he described as “unprecedented thievery, deceit, and a lack of accountability” in the current government, stressing the urgency of national redemption.
“I will be offering myself to lead the reclamation and reconstruction of our traumatised homeland,” Olusunle quoted Atiku as saying after conferring with him.
The former Vice President further explained that his coalition under ADC is mobilising grassroots support to liberate Nigeria from entrenched political forces. “ADC is leading a potent mass movement which will shock the world. We will upstage the status quo in a way which will leave doubters dumbstruck,” he declared.
His remarks came in response to earlier reports quoting Professor Ola Olateju of Achievers University, Owo, who represented him at a political event in Lagos. Olateju was said to have suggested that Atiku’s focus was not on becoming President at all costs but on building a better Nigeria.
Reacting, Atiku distanced himself from those comments, insisting they were not sanctioned. “I did not issue that statement. In this particular instance, there was no engagement with me to distill my thoughts. Prof Olateju was not speaking for me,” he clarified.

Reiterating his ambition, Atiku declared: “I will run in 2027. The degeneration in our country, the poverty, the pain, and the anguish are unacceptable.”
