EKO HOT BLOG reports that leading the loyalists was Victor Oko-Jumbo, former Speaker of the dissolved three-man House of Assembly aligned with Fubara. He arrived with supporters drawn from the 23 local government areas of the state to demonstrate solidarity with the governor.
The scene at the Government House was filled with jubilation. Youths, elders, and women’s groups waved placards and sang solidarity songs, while cultural troupes in colourful attire entertained the crowd with music and dance. Drummers and praise singers added to the carnival-like atmosphere, turning the event into a celebration of Fubara’s reinstatement.
“We have come to possess our possession,” one supporter declared as others cheered and danced in excitement.
Although the exact time of the governor’s return was not immediately known, many of the supporters expressed hope that Fubara would stop to address them before entering the Government House.
The gathering followed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision on Wednesday to lift the emergency rule imposed on Rivers State in March. The move restored full democratic governance and reinstated Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the State House of Assembly.
Before the handover, the outgoing Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), formally returned control of the state to the governor.
