In a major gesture to support families of deceased police officers, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, presented cheques worth ₦2,171,124,041.87 to 1,574 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of fallen officers.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the disbursement, carried out at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, was under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes.

The event was attended by members of the Force Management Team, representatives of the insurance industry, and beneficiaries.
According to the police, the benefits covered policy years from 2015 to 2025, including long-outstanding claims that had remained unresolved for almost a decade.
Since assuming office, IGP Egbetokun has now overseen 11 rounds of disbursements, bringing the total payout under his administration to over ₦24.2 billion, directly benefiting 9,735 families of officers who died in active service.
Speaking during the ceremony, the IGP described the exercise as a solemn responsibility to honour the sacrifices of fallen heroes.
He stressed that supporting the families of late officers was not only an obligation but also a commitment to sustaining the legacy of service left behind by the deceased.
Egbetokun assured that welfare would continue to be a cardinal priority of his leadership, covering serving, retired, and deceased personnel.

He further disclosed that the Nigeria Police is redesigning its welfare framework to make it stronger, transparent, and fully digitized, thereby ensuring prompt payment of entitlements in the future.
The IGP also commended the Force Insurance Unit for its dedication, applauded insurance companies for fulfilling their obligations, and acknowledged the Ministry of Police Affairs for its support.
He extended special gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubufor consistently backing initiatives aimed at improving police welfare.
