A young boy has been beaten to death in Akungba-Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State, for allegedly plucking cocoa pods.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the incident occurred at Alumni Quarters, where a man reportedly assaulted the victim for harvesting his cocoa unlawfully.

According to reports, the boy was brought to the police station unconscious around 2:30 p.m. and was immediately referred for medical treatment.
He was, however, confirmed dead a few hours after being rushed to the hospital.

Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the incident, noting that the suspect had been arrested. He added that the body of the deceased has been deposited in the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Olayinka said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Akure for a thorough probe to ensure justice is served.
He condemned the act and warned residents against taking the law into their own hands, stressing that such actions undermine peace and justice in society.
