Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Monday foiled an escape attempt by a Togolese driver who knocked down a pedestrian at the Adeniji Adele intersection, inward Ilubirin, Lagos Island.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the driver was behind the wheel of a Mazda car with registration number EPE 749 GS, reportedly lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the victim, who was attempting to cross the busy intersection.

Eyewitnesses said the pedestrian was left in a pool of blood while the motorist attempted to flee. However, LASTMA officials on patrol chased him down and prevented his escape.
The Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed that the suspect was apprehended and handed over to policemen at the Adeniji Adele Police Division for investigation and prosecution.
He added that emergency medical responders from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), promptly activated by LASTMA personnel, conveyed the severely injured pedestrian to the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, where urgent treatment was administered.

Commenting on the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, cautioned motorists to exercise safety consciousness behind the wheel, stressing that excessive speed remains a major cause of avoidable road tragedies in Lagos.
