Governor says rancour-free Oyo congress is a model for national unity.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has emphasized that the forthcoming national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) must be built on fair processes, open debate, and inclusivity.
Makinde, in a newsletter released on Thursday evening, noted that these principles were essential to repositioning the PDP and strengthening its prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the PDP is expected to hold its elective national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16. At the gathering, 19 new members of the National Working Committee (NWC) are scheduled to emerge. The party had earlier resolved at its 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on July 24 that the convention would serve as a pathway to restructure and reposition itself for greater electoral chances.
According to Makinde, the recently concluded Oyo State PDP congress, which he described as rancour-free, demonstrated what the party could achieve nationally if fairness and respect guided its internal processes.
“The recent PDP Oyo State congress was held without rancour, and we now look forward to our Ibadan convention in November with hope rather than fear. This is a major win for the party, for democracy, and for you, the people,” he said.

Makinde added that sustaining this momentum was crucial, stressing that a convention grounded in fairness and inclusivity would not only strengthen the PDP internally but also project the image of a dignified political culture. He maintained that it would demonstrate the party’s ability to manage disagreements without disunity and channel ambition into constructive progress rather than conflict.
