EKO HOT BLOG reports that this marks a sharp increase from ₦1,050 recorded just last week, heightening concerns among households already battling rising living expenses.
According to the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, the latest price surge is linked to the recent strike by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN). He explained that the industrial action disrupted gas loading and distribution for several days, leading to an artificial increase in prices.
Ojulari disclosed this while speaking with State House correspondents after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Sunday, October 5, 2025.
Despite efforts by Dangote Refinery to ease supply pressure, the market has yet to reflect any relief. The refinery recently reduced its ex-depot price of LPG by ₦50, bringing it down from ₦810 to ₦760 per kilogram. However, retailers have maintained high selling prices, forcing consumers to bear the brunt.

Based on the current average retail price of ₦1,250 per kilogram, the cost of refilling various cylinder sizes now stands as follows:
| Cylinder Size | Current Cost (₦) |
|---|---|
| 1kg | 1,250 |
| 3kg | 3,750 |
| 5kg | 6,250 |
| 10kg | 12,500 |
| 12kg | 15,000 |
| 12.5kg | 15,625 |
The persistent increase in cooking gas prices comes at a time when Nigerians are already dealing with high inflation, food costs, and fuel prices, prompting calls for urgent government intervention to stabilize the market.
