- Peter Obi denied any alliance talks with former President Jonathan.
- He said their recent meeting was purely for national discussions.
- Rumours of opposition realignment ahead of 2027 were dismissed.
The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has denied claims that he is forming a political alliance with former President Goodluck Jonathan to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
The clarification comes amid rising political tension following a recent closed-door meeting between Obi and Jonathan in Abuja. The meeting, which generated widespread speculation, had sparked rumours of a possible opposition coalition ahead of the next general polls.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that supporters of both politicians have since engaged in heated exchanges on social media, debating who should take the lead in what some described as a test of unity among opposition forces.
Speaking through his media aide and National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Yunusa Tanko, Obi said the meeting with Jonathan was purely cordial and had no political undertones.
According to Tanko, “My principal and the former president have a very good working relationship and know each other well. Seeing them talk to each other should not be translated to mean anything beyond a discussion on how to move the country forward. There is no pact or discussion about 2027.”
He further revealed that similar interactions between both men in the past, including one in Ghana, were merely informal conversations focused on national development, not political negotiations.

Obi’s clarification aims to quell growing speculation within political circles about a realignment among major opposition figures ahead of 2027.
