EKO HOT BLOG reports that Multiple senior officials confirmed on Sunday that Edun, 69, is “indisposed but stable,” adding that he is recuperating at home under close medical supervision. They dismissed rumours suggesting that the minister had suffered a stroke or was flown abroad for treatment.
“Yes, he’s indisposed. He’s sick, which is a bit serious, but it’s not a stroke,” one top government source said. “He’s at home in Abuja and being attended to by Nigerian doctors. If there’s any need for further medical attention abroad, that decision will be made later. For now, he remains in the country.”
Another Presidency source confirmed that President Bola Tinubu has no plans to appoint a replacement or acting minister, stressing that Edun continues to receive updates on ministry affairs. “There are no plans to replace him. The doctors are monitoring his recovery, and he is expected to return to work soon,” the source said.
Edun’s health became a public issue after it was announced that he would not lead Nigeria’s delegation to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C. The delegation will instead be led by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr Olayemi Cardoso, with the Minister of State for Finance, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, also part of the team.
Confirming the development, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, said, “Yes, he’s indisposed. He suddenly fell ill but is recuperating in Abuja. He’s around, not abroad, and expected to recover soon.”
