- North, South-West Renew Political Alliance in Support of Tinubu
- Yakubu described the meeting as a symbol of renewed inter-regional collaboration
- The Olu of Ilu-Abo, Chief Olu Falae, also commended the North-South collaboration
The Arewa Think Tank, a northern socio-political and policy advocacy group, has declared that the North will continue to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the South-West geopolitical zone until 2031, citing the president’s “political astuteness and economic initiatives.”
Eko Hot Blog reports that the group’s convener, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, stated this in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Monday, during a courtesy visit to the National Leader of Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, at his residence. Yakubu led a delegation of professionals from northern states to the meeting.

According to him, the visit aimed to present Tinubu’s “impressive midterm scorecard” and to reassure the South-West of the North’s continued partnership and cooperation beyond 2027.
“We are here today to renew our relationship with the South-West and to reassure the region that the North will stand by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Yakubu said. “We thank the South-West for giving Nigeria a President with vision and commitment who has done well in the last two years.”
Yakubu described the meeting as a symbol of renewed inter-regional collaboration to strengthen national cohesion and sustainable development, adding that the alliance between the North and South-West remains vital to Nigeria’s progress.
He recalled that northern governors were instrumental in Tinubu’s emergence as APC presidential candidate in 2023, noting that the same spirit of solidarity will guide their stance in 2027.

“We don’t double-talk, and we don’t play double games,” he said. “When our governors in 2022 and 2023 agreed that power should shift to the South-West, they stood firm. We are committed to Tinubu till 2031 — even if a northerner shows interest, we will not renege. For national unity, power must remain in the South until 2031.”
Yakubu also praised Pa Fasoranti, who will turn 100 next year, describing him as “an unbiased nationalist and encyclopedia of Nigerian history.”
In his remarks, Pa Reuben Fasoranti lauded the Arewa Think Tank for its commitment to building bridges of understanding between Nigeria’s regions. He said the renewed cooperation echoes the vision of the country’s founding fathers for a just and united federation.
The Olu of Ilu-Abo, Chief Olu Falae, also commended the North-South collaboration, revealing that both parties had agreed to establish a joint framework to advance discussions on constitutional reform, national security, and economic cooperation.
Falae, who noted improvements in agricultural productivity, cited the drop in cassava prices as evidence that the economy was gradually stabilising.
“This time last year, a dyna of cassava tubers sold for ₦450,000; today, it’s ₦150,000,” he said. “These are the positive changes the government’s communication team should be highlighting.”
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, Abagun Kole Omololu, Afenifere’s National Organising Secretary, reaffirmed the group’s alignment with Tinubu’s vision.
“We believe we have found in Nigeria a leader with audacity, vision, and courage,” he said. “This renewed Arewa–Yoruba alliance stands as a beacon of hope for a nation yearning for principled leadership and moral guidance.”
Both groups pledged to promote peace, unity, and true federalism for the country’s continued stability.
