Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, has stated that the upcoming Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP30), organised by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), will further strengthen bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and Brazil, particularly in implementing the Paris Agreement.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Lawal made the remarks during a visit by the Brazilian Ambassador to Nigeria, Carlos Garcete, and his delegation to the Federal Ministry of Environment in Abuja.

“Nigeria and Brazil have enjoyed bilateral cooperation in trade, culture, tourism, economic growth, and development since Nigeria’s independence. Our country is also known for its rich forest cover, rivers, and unique flora and fauna,” Lawal said.
The Minister assured the Ambassador that relations between the two countries would continue to grow, highlighting opportunities for collaboration at COP30 in areas such as climate change adaptation, mitigation, ecosystems, biodiversity, and environmental sustainability.

He also commended the Brazilian government for resuming direct flights to Nigeria, noting that it would boost economic growth and development, and thanked Brazil for securing the hosting rights for COP30 and the G20 Summit.
