The ceded facility, one of three formerly owned by UNIMED, leaves the university with two complexes located at the Medical Village on Laje Road and Hospital Road, Ondo City.
Tinubu stated that the establishment of FUTATH would significantly transform medical training, research, and healthcare services in Ondo State and across Nigeria.
He said, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to changing the health and social landscape of this country with focus, boldness, and determination. I want to thank Governor Aiyedatiwa and his team for their collaboration in making this possible.”

The President also assured health workers transitioning to the Federal Government’s payroll of improved welfare and capacity development, urging them to rededicate themselves to service delivery.
Prof. Pate commended the national leader of Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, and the Deji of Akure, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo, for their support in the hospital’s transfer and establishment process.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, described the move as a strategic decision aimed at elevating medical education, research, and healthcare delivery.
He said, “By handing over this hospital to the Federal Government, we are unlocking superior funding, better equipment, and inclusion in international research networks. This will enhance our capacity for medical innovation and excellence.”
The Chief Medical Director of FUTATH, Prof. Olusegun Ojo, added that the facility would focus on advanced diagnostics and sub-specialty care, reducing the burden of medical tourism and associated costs for Nigerians.
