The Bishop Emeritus of the Catholic Diocese of Oyo, Most Rev. Julius Babatunde Adelakun, has died at the age of 91.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the news of his passing was announced on Saturday by the Bishop of Oyo Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Emmanuel Badejo, in an official statement. According to Badejo, Bishop Adelakun passed away on Friday, leaving behind a legacy of faith and service.
Bishop Adelakun served as the Bishop of Oyo for 36 years, from April 13, 1973, until his retirement on November 4, 2009. During his tenure, he was widely respected for his dedication to the Church and his pastoral leadership across the diocese.
Badejo described the late cleric as “a man who lived a full, impactful life and whose witness touched multitudes,” noting that he devoted his life to serving God, the Church, and humanity. He also urged Catholics in the diocese to continue praying for the peaceful repose of the bishop’s soul, adding that funeral arrangements would be communicated later.
Born on November 4, 1934, Julius Adelakun was ordained a Catholic priest on June 27, 1965, and consecrated bishop on February 11, 1973.
