The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritise local refining and allocate the nation’s crude oil entirely to the Dangote Refinery to achieve fuel self-sufficiency.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the students made the demand during a peaceful demonstration from Millennium Park to Unity Fountain in Abuja on Wednesday. Security personnel, however, restricted them from reaching the National Assembly.

Addressing journalists, NAPS President, Comrade Eshiofune Oghayan, described the Dangote Refinery as a symbol of Africa’s industrial rebirth and a lifeline for Nigeria’s economic independence.
He said local refining would reduce fuel prices, strengthen the naira, and boost national development.

The students praised President Tinubu’s investment in education and youth empowerment, expressing confidence that he would support their appeal.
They also called for the removal of elements within the oil sector, allegedly frustrating progress.
Oghayan urged students nationwide to defend local innovations and productivity, stressing that youth-driven advocacy was essential to national transformation.
