EKO HOT BLOG reports that the defection ceremony, held amid a large turnout of supporters, was described by observers as a “total collapse of opposition” in the governor’s home area. Vandeikya is the political base of Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia.
Speaking at the event, Benue State APC Chairman, Benjamin Omale, declared that the mass defection had effectively erased all opposition in the area.
“With what we are witnessing today, th
ere is no longer any opposition in Vandeikya LGA,” Omale said. “This is the governor’s home base, and the people have shown where their confidence lies.”
Leading the defectors were former PDP governorship aspirant, Dominic Akaaha, and former Commissioner for Information, Cletus Akwaya, alongside other prominent figures from the ADC and Labour Party.
Omale emphasized that the calibre of the defectors reflected the growing strength of the APC across Benue State. “The calibre of politicians who joined the APC today shows clearly that there is no longer any serious opposition in Vandeikya,” he said.
He attributed the wave of defections to Governor Hyacinth Alia’s strong performance and the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu, which he said had restored confidence in the ruling party.

“The massive defection we witnessed today is a result of Governor Alia’s performance in all areas of governance,” Omale added. “It is clear that Vandeikya has been sealed for the APC.”
He described the event as historic, adding that similar defections from other local government areas are expected in the coming weeks.
