According to preliminary investigations by traffic officials, the accident involved a tipper truck loaded with sand (unregistered), a Toyota Corolla (SMK 42 AJ), an MPV bus, and four tricycles.
Traffic reports revealed that the tipper truck, travelling at high speed, suffered a mechanical brake failure, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle reportedly rammed into multiple vehicles and tricycles, resulting in severe damage, injuries, and fatalities.
Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) promptly arrived at the scene to prevent secondary accidents and conduct rescue operations.

They were later joined by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Odongunyan Division and personnel from the Shagamu Police Division.
The agencies worked together to rescue and convey seven critically injured victims to nearby hospitals, while the three deceased students were taken to the General Hospital Ikorodu mortuary.
All wrecked vehicles were cleared from the scene by LASTMA officials to restore normal traffic flow.
Expressing sorrow over the tragedy, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare Oki, extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
Mr Bakare Oki lamented that the incident was avoidable, citing overspeeding, recklessness, and poor vehicle maintenance, especially faulty brakes, as recurring causes of fatal road crashes in Lagos.
He urged all commercial and heavy duty vehicle drivers to adhere strictly to speed limits, carry out regular mechanical checks, and maintain road discipline to prevent future tragedies.
Reaffirming the agency’s commitment, Bakare Oki assured that LASTMA remains dedicated to promoting road safety, enforcing traffic discipline, and ensuring swift emergency responses across the state.
