- PDP has decided to suspend and cancel the proposed national convention
- Mohammed clarified that such an order cannot override a subsisting judgment
- Proceeding with the convention at this stage would contravene legal directives
The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdulrahman Mohammed, has announced the cancellation of the party’s planned national convention earlier scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that Mohammed explained the decision followed the receipt of the Certified True Copy (CTC) of a recent judgment by the Federal High Court in Abuja, delivered by Justice Omotosho in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/2120/2025.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday alongside the party’s National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and some members of the National Working Committee (NWC), Mohammed said the leadership had reviewed the court’s decision and taken appropriate legal steps in response.

He stated that, after consulting with the National Legal Adviser, Ajibade K.A. (SAN), the party resolved to appeal the judgment at the Court of Appeal for further interpretation in line with due process and fairness.
“Following our appeal and in adherence to the rule of law, the PDP has decided to suspend and cancel the proposed national convention in Ibadan until the Court of Appeal delivers its verdict,” Mohammed said.
“Proceeding with the convention at this stage would contravene legal directives, and the party will not engage in any act that undermines the law.”

He further noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which was a party to the case, had been officially informed of the party’s decision in compliance with the court’s ruling.
Addressing reports of an ex parte order issued by an Oyo State High Court, Mohammed clarified that such an order cannot override a subsisting judgment of the Federal High Court.
He added that the PDP would continue to act strictly within the bounds of lawful judicial authority and the Nigerian Constitution.
