Emajuwa, who had reportedly lived with the parents of the deceased for several months, allegedly committed the act on September 16, 2025.
Police sources said the suspect was tracked and arrested through intelligence gathering after the ransom was paid.
According to the source, Emajuwa later confessed to the crime, leading to the arrest of his accomplices, Edugie Destiny, aged 20, and Osayande Vincent, aged 23. Their confession helped police locate the boy’s body, which was dumped inside a well, with reports indicating that some of his vital organs were harvested.
Deputy Spokesperson of the Edo Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the incident but dismissed claims that the suspects had been released.
She explained that the case was first reported at the Ogida Police Division before being transferred to the Anti Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit in Benin for detailed investigation.
“Following sustained tactical and technical intelligence, operatives of the unit arrested three suspects , Tega Emajuwa, aged 18, Edugie Destiny, aged 20, and Osayande Vincent, aged 23 who made confessional statements linking them to the crime,” Ikoedem said.

“During the investigation, the victim’s body was discovered inside a well in Obagie Community. The remains were evacuated and deposited at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital mortuary for autopsy.”
She also debunked a viral video in which the victim’s mother alleged that the suspects had been released.
“The claim is false, misleading, and unfounded. The suspects remained in lawful custody until they were charged to court on October 16, 2025, where they have been remanded for prosecution.
The mother of the deceased was present in court during the proceedings,” the police spokesperson added.
