EKO HOT BLOG reports that Speaking on Wednesday at the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) Conference in Abuja, Tinubu urged citizens to recognise and support troops who “put their lives on the line” to defend the nation.
The President acknowledged the persistence of terrorism, banditry, and other forms of insecurity across the country but assured that his administration would not relent in addressing them.
“Yes, we are challenged by terrorism, banditry and others. We recognise that,” Tinubu said. “Are we inspiring the armed forces? Are we encouraging them to fight? They put their lives on the line to defend the sovereignty of this country. It is our responsibility.”
He reiterated that strengthening national security structures and boosting the morale of security personnel remain top priorities of his government.
Tinubu’s remarks come amid renewed concern over rising attacks by terrorists and bandits in parts of the North, as citizens continue to call for stronger government intervention.
Earlier this month, United States President Donald Trump described the attacks in Nigeria as “mass slaughter,” warning that Christianity faces an existential threat in the country. His comments drew diplomatic reactions from Abuja, with the Federal Government urging him to adopt a more measured approach in assessing Nigeria’s security situation.
Government officials maintained that significant progress has been made, particularly in the North-East, where several towns previously held by Boko Haram have been recaptured.
Reaffirming his administration’s determination, Tinubu said last Thursday that Nigeria remains committed to international cooperation in the fight against terrorism and organised crime.

“The task ahead is immense, but we are resolved to move forward with unity and purpose to defeat terrorism and build a prosperous, inclusive, and resilient Nigeria,” he added.
