Former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to postpone its planned national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State, amid deepening legal and political disputes within the party.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Saraki made the appeal on Wednesday night through a statement posted on his official X (Twitter) handle, following a meeting with members of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) Reconciliation Committee led by Ambassador Hassan Adamu at his Abuja residence.

The meeting, according to him, focused on addressing key challenges threatening the unity and stability of the opposition party.

The former Kwara State governor expressed disappointment that despite continuous reconciliation efforts by concerned stakeholders, the forthcoming convention had become embroiled in a web of legal battles and internal divisions.
Saraki warned that the conflicting court orders concerning the validity of the planned convention could undermine its legitimacy and further destabilize the PDP.
“As it stands, there is no assurance that the conduct and outcome of the convention will stand. Legal disputes only breed more divisions — the affairs of political parties are best settled through dialogue,” he stated.

He advised the BoT to recommend the formation of a Caretaker Committee within 48 hours to oversee party affairs and rebuild trust among members. “This is the path to reconciliation and stability.
Proceeding with the Ibadan convention under these circumstances will only worsen the crisis,” Saraki added.
The PDP has been engulfed in internal wrangling, marked by suspensions and counter-suspensions between the factions of Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum and National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
A Federal High Court in Abuja recently ordered a halt to the planned convention, but the party’s leadership insists it will proceed, maintaining that the court lacks jurisdiction.
