Represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Isiaka Yusuf Olatunji (IYO), Hon. Olowa described the initiative as a groundbreaking effort to ensure accurate and secure documentation of infants across Lagos State.
He explained that the electronic registration will capture data of children aged 0 to 12 months, making birth certification faster, safer, and more efficient.
“This initiative will make it easier for parents to obtain birth certificates while ensuring that data of our children are securely stored and accessible for official purposes,” Hon. Olowa stated.

“I urge all residents of Ibeju-Lekki to take advantage of this opportunity by visiting health facilities to register their babies. It is absolutely free and guarantees data safety.”
Earlier, the Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Kehinde Ososanya, provided insights into the initiative, noting that the electronic system automatically generates a National Identification Number (NIN) for each registered child.
“This E-Birth Registration covers children from 0 to 12 months. Once registered, their data is linked directly to the national database, eliminating the need for future NIN application,” she explained.
She added that the manual birth registration system remains available for older children and others not covered by the new system.
During the demonstration session, the Health Information Manager, Mrs. Owolomoshe Falilat Faderera, successfully registered a baby boy, Master Ejiofor, son of Mrs. Ejiofor Nkem Janet, showcasing the process’s simplicity and accuracy.
Expressing her gratitude, Mrs. Ejiofor commended the Lagos State Government for introducing a technology-driven system that saves time, reduces stress, and ensures efficiency in vital data management.
