EKO HOT BLOG reports that Mutfwang clarified that the expulsion was never discussed at the PDP Governors’ Forum or the National Executive Committee before it was presented at the convention. His position was conveyed in a statement issued on Saturday by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, who described the governor as completely detached from the move.
According to the statement, Mutfwang believes expelling key stakeholders at a time the PDP is grappling with internal tensions will only worsen the party’s troubles rather than help resolve them. He advised that the leadership prioritise reconciliation and dialogue instead of punitive measures that could deepen divisions.
The statement read, “The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has formally distanced himself from the expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State, Barr Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, alongside other leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party.”
Mutfwang’s stance makes him the second governor to publicly reject the expulsion after Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, also stated that he had no hand in the decision. Both governors have called for unity and collective effort in rebuilding the PDP and stabilising its internal structure.
The party had earlier on Saturday announced the expulsion of Wike, Fayose, and Anyanwu during the convention at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan. The motion for their removal was moved by former National Vice Chairman of the PDP (South), Olabode George, and seconded by the Bauchi State PDP Chairman, Hon Samaila Buga, after which the convention adopted it.

Mutfwang maintains that the PDP must embrace dialogue and internal reconciliation to reposition itself for the future, insisting that unity remains the only viable path forward.
