EKO HOT BLOG reports that Ememobong, a lawyer and public relations strategist, secured the position on Saturday during the convention attended by thousands of accredited delegates. His emergence marks a return to a role he previously held at the state level, where he served as the PDP Publicity Secretary in Akwa Ibom, a position that significantly boosted his visibility and influence within the party.
He resigned from Governor Umo Eno’s cabinet in June after the governor defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress. Before that, he served as Commissioner for Information under former Governor Udom Emmanuel, establishing himself as one of the key communicators in the state.
Ememobong’s political career dates back to his days as a student leader at the University of Uyo, where he served as National President of the National Association of Nigerian Students. His influence later extended into government when he was appointed Special Assistant on Students’ Matters to then-Governor Godswill Akpabio, who is now the Senate President.
In his first statement after his election, Ememobong expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him and pledged dedication to the responsibilities ahead. He said, “I accept this assignment with a deep sense of responsibility, trusting that He who has been my help in ages past will remain my source and strength as I undertake this national duty for our party at a time like this.”
Acknowledging the challenges confronting the PDP as an opposition party, he said the moment presented an opportunity for renewal and rebuilding. “Yet, I believe, as my campaign theme stated, that this is our moment of rebirth, a time to build anew from the old, to rekindle the flame, and to present to Nigerians an opposition party they can genuinely trust,” he added.
