EKO HOT BLOG reports that the incident occurred during a party hosted on Anjorin Street by a resident recently honoured with a chieftaincy title. While the event was underway, a truck attempting to access a nearby estate was obstructed by a large canopy set up across the road.
According to witnesses, some guests and an occupant of the truck offered to lift the canopy to allow the vehicle to pass. In the process, the metal frame of the canopy made contact with a live electric wire lying close to the area, resulting in an immediate electric shock that threw the party into confusion.
An eyewitness, Femi Ajiboye, said the victims collapsed instantly as the current surged through the metal structure. He explained that people initially could not understand what had gone wrong until the victims hit the ground. Another resident, Olajide, confirmed that all four victims were taken to hospital where the truck occupant was confirmed dead on arrival, while the three guests were admitted for treatment. He added that the deceased’s body had since been released to his family for burial.
A resident who had seen the deceased shortly before the incident said news of his death came as a shock. Efforts to get confirmation from the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer were unsuccessful, as calls and messages were not answered.

The incident adds to growing concerns about unsafe electrical installations and the need for stronger enforcement of safety standards across Lagos communities.
