In his letter to the Senate, President Tinubu said the bill introduces updated standards to strengthen discipline, boost public trust, and improve access to justice.
He stressed that evolving challenges in licensing, ethics enforcement, and professional accountability had made a total review unavoidable.

The draft legislation outlines several major reforms, including clear professional principles, a new admissions structure, and a strengthened disciplinary system empowered to impose sanctions ranging from reprimand to removal from the roll.
It also proposes a mandatory two-year Post-Professional Legal Internship (PPLI), compulsory continuing education, and accreditation of law offices before practitioners can obtain licences or seals.

Tinubu urged senators to give the bill urgent attention. The Senate subsequently directed its Committee on Rules and Business to commence legislative work on the proposal.
In a separate correspondence read on the floor, First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu invited all senators to a dinner at the Presidential Villa this Friday.
