The students were kidnapped during a night raid that triggered nationwide outrage and renewed fresh concerns about the safety of schools in the North-West region.
Armed men were said to have stormed the school at about 5:52 am, firing shots as the girls prepared for morning activities. The attackers overpowered the school’s security personnel and fled with several students into the surrounding bushes.
The Kebbi State Police Command had earlier confirmed the deadly attack, which resulted in the killing of the Vice Principal and the abduction of 25 students in the early hours of Monday.

The President expressed deep sadness over the abduction and assured parents, guardians and state authorities that the federal government is committed to ensuring the safe return of all abducted students.

Details surrounding the rescue operation remain unclear as of the time of filing this report. Security officials say an official announcement is expected later tonight.
