The Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State on Tuesday produced Adedamola Adebayo as its governorship flagbearer for the 2026 election, but the exercise unfolded without Governor Ademola Adeleke and several party heavyweights who were noticeably absent at the venue in Osogbo.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the announcement was made by the chairman of the primary committee, Humphrey Abba, who declared Adebayo the winner after confirming 20 void votes and noting that one aspirant had earlier withdrawn from the race.

Moments after the process ended, tension erupted when Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, arrived with a group of lawmakers.
A confrontation ensued, leading to a disturbing scene in which an INEC staffer was assaulted by an alleged political thug, sparking outrage among onlookers.
Videos from the venue showed a bus carrying several individuals being stopped by a mob that accused the occupants of participating illegally in the primary.
The passengers, later taken to the Assembly Police Post, insisted they had only travelled from Oyo State for a union meeting and were not involved in any political activity.

Egbedun, however, accused Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State of interference, alleging an orchestrated attempt to influence Osun’s internal affairs.
He warned that Osun PDP leaders would resist any external manipulation, insisting that the party’s structure remained firmly intact.
The primary had been dogged by confusion following conflicting directives from rival national officers of the PDP.
Meanwhile, despite announcing his resignation from the party earlier in the day, Governor Adeleke’s name remained on the ballot, though the committee clarified that votes cast for him would not count.
INEC has set December 15, 2025, as the deadline for political parties to submit their candidates for the August 8, 2026, governorship election in Osun.
