EKO HOT BLOG reports that although the Presidency did not disclose details of their discussion, sources familiar with the meeting told Vanguard that the talks were strongly linked to ongoing efforts to secure the release of the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The meeting comes shortly after Governor Otti’s high-level visit to Kanu at the Sokoto prison, where the IPOB leader is serving a life sentence following his conviction on terrorism related charges on November 20, 2025.
The visit formed part of a broader political and legal strategy designed to address the long standing case.
During the trip to Sokoto, Otti led a delegation that included Emmanuel Kanu, the younger brother of the IPOB leader, the Abia State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, as well as officials of the Sokoto State Government. Their presence signalled renewed efforts to pursue a lawful pathway toward resolving the matter.
Governor Otti has repeatedly stated that addressing Kanu’s case is a priority for his administration. After the prison visit, he reaffirmed his commitment to an already agreed plan to push for Kanu’s release through legitimate channels.

He noted that while Kanu retains the right to appeal his conviction, he will continue to pursue the agreed strategy until the goal of securing his release is achieved.
