EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) via the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) the official rate closed at ₦1,452 per US dollar.
In contrast, traders in the black-market (parallel market) quoted the dollar at around ₦1,490 (sell) and ₦1,475 (buy).
| Market type | Rate (₦ per US$) |
|---|---|
| Official (CBN–NFEM) | ~1,452 |
| Parallel / Black-market | ~1,490 (sell) / ~1,475 (buy) |
Despite modest inflows through formal FX channels that have helped sustain the official rate, persistent demand for foreign currency driven by remittances, imports, and travel continues to push black-market values higher.
Market watchers note that the roughly ₦38 difference between official and street rates reflects ongoing pressure on the Naira outside formal FX windows.

With the year-end approaching, analysts expect the Naira to remain within the ₦1,445–₦1,470 band officially, although the parallel market may remain volatile depending on demand and liquidity.
