Kefas disclosed that a new date would soon be announced for a formal defection ceremony, following the earlier postponement of the event.

Addressing party members after his registration, the governor assured them of his commitment to inclusive governance and renewed efforts to deliver dividends of democracy to the people of Taraba State.
He had earlier shifted the planned defection date out of respect for the victims of the schoolchildren abduction in Kebbi State.
His move comes amid a wave of defections that have hit the PDP in recent months, further deepening internal cracks within the opposition party.

Prior to Kefas’ registration, the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, John Kizito, alongside 15 lawmakers, had also defected to the APC, citing unresolved crises within the PDP and the need to align the state with the federal government.
The trend mirrors similar political realignments in other states, signalling a growing shift ahead of future electoral contests.
