The Senate on Thursday confirmed the appointment of 64 nominees as Career and Non-Career Ambassadors of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the confirmation followed the consideration and adoption of a report by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, chaired by Senator Abubakar Sani Bello (Niger North).

Presenting the report, Senator Bello said the committee thoroughly screened the nominees and found them suitable for diplomatic postings, noting that their nominations complied with relevant laws and established guidelines.
According to the report, 34 nominees were confirmed as Career Ambassadors, while 30 others were cleared as Non-Career Ambassadors.
Those confirmed as Career Ambassadors include Nwaobiala Ezenwa Chukwuemeka (Abia), Betso Maimunah Ibrahim (Adamawa), Monica Okwuchukwu Enebechi (Anambra), Mohammed Mahmud Lele (Bauchi), Ahmed Mohammed Monguno (Borno), Adams Jane Bassey (Cross River), Sulu-Gambari Olatunji Ahmed (Kwara), and Ramat Mohammed Omobolanle (Lagos).

Others are Adeyemi Adebayo Emmanuel (Ekiti), Okechukwu Kingsley Onaga (Enugu), Abdussalam Habu Zayyad (Kano), Shehu Ilu Barde (Katsina), Haidara Mohammed Idris (Kebbi), Bako Adamu Umar (Kogi), Shaga John Shamah (Nasarawa), Ibrahim Danlami (Niger), Reuben Abimbola Samuel (Ondo), Akande Wahab Adekola (Osun), Luther Ogbomode Ayo-Kalata (Rivers), Danladi Yakubu Nyaku (Taraba) and Bello Dogon-Daji Haliru (Sokoto).
The Senate also confirmed several prominent political figures and technocrats as Non-Career Ambassadors, including former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Ita S.J. Enang; former Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu; former INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu; former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas (rtd); former Defence Minister, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (rtd); and former Ondo lawmaker, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim.
Others confirmed include Chief Olufemi Fani-Kayode, Prof. Isaac Adewole, Mr. Reno Omokri, Chief Olufemi Pedro, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Mrs. Fatima Ajimobi, Senator Grace Bent, Senator Prof. Nora Ladi Daduut, and Dr. Yakubu Gambo, among others drawn from across the six geopolitical zones.
Out of the 65 ambassadorial nominees forwarded to the Senate by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, only Adamu Garba Talba Nangree (Yobe State) was not confirmed, having failed to appear for screening.
Senator Bello said the committee was in communication with Nangree and that he would be screened at a later date.
Following the adoption of the report, Senate President Godswill Akpabio formally declared the nominees confirmed and urged them to represent Nigeria with diligence and project the country’s image positively in their respective postings.
