According to the statement, the terrorists, operating from the Mandara Mountains, attempted to infiltrate a military location in Bitta before they were detected by troops using advanced surveillance systems.
“At about 0030 hours on 18 December 2025, troops detected the movement of terrorists advancing towards the area,” the statement said.
It added that the troops exercised tactical restraint, allowing the insurgents to move into an effective engagement range before launching coordinated defensive fire, which resulted in the neutralisation of several terrorists, including a key leader and his cameraman.
“As the surviving terrorists attempted to withdraw, precision follow-on strikes were carried out by the Air Component of OPHK, further decimating the retreating elements and disrupting their escape routes,” the statement noted.

Following the engagement, troops conducted a thorough sweep of the area, leading to the recovery of several items believed to belong to the terrorists. These include a camcorder, AK-47 rifles, bandoliers, handheld radios, 11 AK-47 magazines loaded with ammunition, seven mobile phones, PKT machine guns, belts of PKT and GPMG linked ammunition, as well as motorcycles and bicycles.
The military further revealed that additional blood trails and shallow graves were discovered during the operation, indicating more casualties among the terrorists during the encounter and subsequent air strikes.
Lieutenant Colonel Uba added that troop morale remains high as operations continue to deny terrorists freedom of action and ensure the safety of communities within the area of responsibility.
