Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has praised the Daniel Ford Elite Table Tennis Tournament for its growing impact in discovering and developing young sporting talents across Nigeria, describing grassroots sports initiatives as critical to sustained excellence.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the governor spoke at the opening ceremony of the tournament, sponsored by Daniel Ford International, a UK based property firm, and held at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere.

Sanwo-Olu said initiatives that focus on young athletes at the community level have played a major role in elevating Lagos’ status in sports, both nationally and internationally. According to him, consistent investment, clear policy direction, and strong partnerships have helped the state build a solid pipeline of emerging talents.

He linked Lagos’ historic victory at the 9th National Youth Games earlier this year to deliberate efforts aimed at talent discovery and structured athlete development.
“Lagos won the National Youth Games for the first time this year, which is clear proof of Lagos State’s investment and support for grassroots initiatives like Daniel Ford,” the governor said. “I am confident that Lagos will top the medal table again at the next Youth Games because of the pragmatic and excellent leadership at the Lagos State Sports Commission.”
Sanwo-Olu also commended the Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, and his team for what he described as their dedication and commitment to youth sports development in the state.
Now in its 3rd year, the Daniel Ford Elite Table Tennis Tournament has steadily grown into a key platform for identifying and grooming young table tennis players in Nigeria.

This year’s edition has expanded to include an Under-12 category, in addition to the existing Under-15 and Under-19 divisions, giving younger athletes more opportunities to compete, gain exposure, and showcase their potential.
