The Gombe State Police Command confirmed that a 19-year-old suspect, Shuaibu Adamu, has been arrested in connection with the incident. The command’s spokesperson, Buhari Abdullahi, said a distress report was received on December 26, 2025, after Usama was found lying motionless within the Government House premises.
According to the police, the victim was discovered with his trousers tied around his neck, while a local intoxicant commonly referred to as rubber solution was found in his mouth. He was immediately rushed to the Specialist Hospital in Gombe, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead. His remains were subsequently deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Abdullahi said the Commissioner of Police, Umar Ahmed Chuso, visited the scene and ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

Further investigations, including a review of CCTV footage within the Government House, allegedly showed Shuaibu Adamu also known as “Yaya Mama,” a casual watchman attached to a construction company working at the Government House—assaulting the deceased before his death. The suspect reportedly fled the scene immediately after the incident.
The police said a coordinated follow-up operation led to the suspect’s arrest at his hideout in Bagadaza Quarters, Gombe, at about 11 p.m. the same day. During preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime.
“The suspect remains in police custody while investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the homicide and to ensure diligent prosecution in accordance with the law,” Abdullahi said.
The Gombe State Police Command also reassured residents of its commitment to justice and the safety of all individuals working within and around government facilities.
