EKO HOT BLOG reports that Trump, speaking to world leaders in New York, said the UN had become known for offering “empty words” and doing little in reality.
“They always seem to write a strongly worded letter, but that doesn’t stop war,” he said, criticizing the UN’s track record on international peace.
The president used the platform to highlight his own achievements in conflict resolution, claiming to have brokered peace in several global hot zones during his time in office.
“I stopped seven wars in seven months. The UN never even called to offer help,” he stated.
He also took a swipe at the organization’s technical setup, joking that “the only thing I got from the UN was an escalator that broke halfway and a teleprompter that didn’t work.”
On climate change, Trump dismissed international climate agreements as a “con job” and said they were harming industrialized nations while allowing developing countries to ignore the rules.
“These climate deals are destroying free nations,” he said.
He argued for a new partnership with Washington, calling on other countries to abandon failing strategies.
In a pointed remark, Trump told global leaders;
“Your countries are going to hell. I’m really good at this stuff,” as he pushed for a shift in global leadership strategy.
Despite his sharp criticism, Trump said the UN still holds “tremendous potential” but must move away from what he called “useless diplomacy.”
Present in the hall were top leaders like Italy’s Giorgia Meloni, Brazil’s Lula da Silva, Finland’s Alexander Stubb, and others who listened as Trump delivered his most fiery address since his last UN appearance six years ago.
Trump is expected to hold meetings with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, as well as leaders from Ukraine, Argentina, and the European Union.
He also plans to meet officials from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, and other key countries in a multilateral session.
Trump said he looked forward to a one-on-one discussion with Brazil’s President Lula, noting “we’ve got great chemistry.”
During his earlier presidency, Trump had urged countries to reject globalism and embrace nationalism a message that previously drew laughter from world leaders in the same hall.
