Eko Hot Blog reports that the initiative, introduced under the leadership of the Chairman, Hon. (Engr.) Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, follows recent security briefings with heads of security agencies and is targeted at curbing criminal activities linked to unregistered operators.
The registration exercise officially kicked off at the designated centre in Abijo GRA and will continue daily across approved registration units within the local government.
According to the council, the programme is aimed at ensuring proper documentation of riders, improving passenger safety, and strengthening collaboration between transport operators and security agencies.
Riders who complete the process will be issued official identification and unique stickers for their motorcycles to aid easy identification and verification.
Speaking on the exercise, Hon. Olowa explained that the move is a proactive step toward safeguarding lives and property in Ibeju-Lekki.
“This registration is not meant to punish law-abiding riders but to protect our communities and ensure that only identifiable and accountable operators ply our roads,” he stated.
The council boss urged all Okada riders to comply promptly, warning that defaulters may face sanctions as enforcement begins.
He also called on union leaders and community stakeholders to mobilise their members to ensure smooth and seamless participation in the exercise.
Reaffirming its resolve, the local government assured residents that the initiative aligns with its broader commitment to security, orderliness and the wellbeing of everyone living and doing business in Ibeju-Lekki.
