The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has honoured Nigeria’s fallen heroes and serving military personnel, describing their sacrifices as the quiet but enduring price paid for the nation’s peace, unity, and freedom.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Governor’s message was delivered on his behalf by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, at the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service held at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Ikeja. The service was themed “Sacrifice Remembered, Strength Renewed.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu described the annual remembrance as a moment of reflection, gratitude, and national reverence, noting that it serves as an opportunity to thank God while honouring the courage and dedication of members of the Armed Forces who continue to defend the nation at great personal cost.
According to the Governor, the peace enjoyed by citizens in their daily lives is sustained by men and women in uniform who remain on duty under challenging and often dangerous conditions.
He expressed deep appreciation for the commitment of soldiers, sailors, airmen, and officers whose service, he said, reflects discipline, selflessness, and an unwavering sense of duty to the nation.
He paid special tribute to fallen heroes and heroines who made the ultimate sacrifice, stating that even though their names may not always be mentioned, their legacy is permanently engraved in Nigeria’s history.
He noted that their bravery and devotion laid the foundation for the freedoms the country enjoys today.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also acknowledged the families of the fallen, recognizing their pain, strength, and resilience.
He assured them of the Lagos State Government’s continued solidarity and commitment to honouring the memories of their loved ones while providing enduring support.
Commending the Armed Forces for their expanding role in national development, the Governor highlighted their contributions to internal security, disaster response, protection of critical infrastructure, humanitarian services, and the promotion of national unity.
He urged Nigerians to uphold unity, responsibility, and mutual respect, stressing that national cohesion remains essential to sustaining peace and strengthening the country’s defenders.
He further called on religious institutions to continue praying for peace, wisdom for leaders, and divine protection for security personnel.
In his sermon, the Lead Pastor of Church Management Consult, Pastor Seyi Oladimeji, drew inspiration from Isaiah 41:10, encouraging Nigerians to live responsibly and embrace peaceful coexistence. He offered prayers for divine support for the living and eternal rest for the departed.
The event was attended by senior Armed Forces commanders, heads of paramilitary agencies, members of the Nigerian Legion, representatives of Armed Forces Wives Associations, families of fallen heroes and heroines, and other distinguished guests.
The service concluded with special prayers for the repose of the souls of departed heroes, comfort for their families, protection for serving personnel, and lasting peace and stability for Nigeria.
