EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement issued by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Samira Suleiman, the management confirmed that the incident was a case of medical negligence. The statement disclosed that surgical scissors were left inside the patient’s body during an earlier operation, a development that later led to complications and her eventual death.
The Board said a preliminary investigation ordered by the Executive Secretary, Dr Mansur Mudi Nagoda, established that the negligence occurred during the initial surgical procedure carried out on the deceased.
According to the statement, the three medical personnel involved have been suspended with immediate effect to allow for an unhindered investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Board further revealed that the case has been formally referred to the Kano State Medical Ethics Committee for a more detailed probe and possible disciplinary action in line with professional regulations and existing laws.
“The preliminary findings confirmed that surgical scissors were mistakenly left inside the patient after surgery. This constitutes a serious breach of medical standards,” the statement said.
It added that the referral to the ethics committee was necessary to ensure accountability and prevent a recurrence of such incidents within the state health system.
The Board expressed sympathy with the family of the deceased and assured the public that negligence would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

“The Board extends its deepest condolences to the family of the late Aishatu Umar and sympathizes with them over this painful loss. We reassure the public that negligence will not be condoned in any form,” the statement added.
