EKO HOT BLOG reports that National Chairman of the PDP, Tanimu Turaki, made this known on Tuesday in Abuja after a closed door meeting with former Vice President, Namadi Sambo.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, which lasted about three hours, Turaki said the party had taken a clear decision to zone its presidential ticket to the South, stressing that no aspirant had been anointed or preselected.
According to him, the PDP remains committed to internal democracy and would allow a transparent process to determine its flagbearer ahead of the 2027 polls.
“As I have consistently said, the PDP has resolved to zone its presidential ticket to the southern part of Nigeria. At this point, we do not know who will eventually emerge as our candidate, although we are aware of those who will not,” Turaki said.
When asked whether former President Goodluck Jonathan was being considered for the ticket, the PDP chairman said the opportunity was open to all eligible members from the South.
“The ticket is open to every PDP member who is from southern Nigeria or of southern Nigeria descent and who meets the constitutional requirements,” he stated.
Turaki assured party members and the general public that the process of selecting the party’s presidential candidate would be fair, transparent and credible.
“The process will be open, transparent, fair and equitable. It will create a level playing field for everyone who is interested,” he said.
He added that Nigerians would ultimately determine who flies the PDP flag in 2027 through the party’s democratic processes.
The PDP chairman also revealed that Sambo reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and pledged continued support for its rebuilding efforts ahead of the next general election.

Turaki described the meeting as part of ongoing consultations aimed at repositioning the PDP for electoral success in 2027.
