Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has assured residents that the progress achieved under his administration will continue even after his tenure ends in May 2027, as his team is ready to serve the state in different capacities.
The governor made the statement on Sunday during a Thanksgiving Service at the Cathedral of St Peter’s, Aremo, Ibadan, commemorating Oyo State’s 50th Anniversary, Eko Hot Blog reports.

He emphasized that his government had laid a strong foundation for sustainable development, ensuring the state enters its next phase on solid ground.

While reading the second Bible lesson from Matthew 5:1-12, Makinde thanked God for enabling him to emerge as governor in 2019 after eight years of contesting for the position. He described the milestone as a divine gift that ushered in a new era of governance for the state.
In his goodwill message, former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, praised Makinde’s leadership and transformation agenda.
Obi urged Nigerians to pray for politicians, noting, “We are the problem of Nigeria. No other person. Nigeria is not a poor country but only poorly governed. Remember us in your prayers that God should touch our hearts to use public money for public good.”

The Archbishop of Ibadan Province, Most Rev’d Williams Aladekugbe, delivered a sermon titled “Gratitude,” acknowledging God’s blessings on Oyo State.
He commended past leaders for their contributions to the state’s growth and lauded Governor Makinde for people-oriented policies, infrastructural development, improved welfare for workers and pensioners, and promotion of peaceful coexistence.
Special prayers were offered for the governor, past leaders, and the nation, alongside supplications for the continuity of good governance in Oyo State.
