The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stepped up efforts to resolve its lingering internal crisis following a Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan, Oyo State, which nullified the party’s national convention held in the city between November 15 and 16, 2025.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the judgment, delivered last Friday, has prompted renewed calls for unity within the opposition party, with both the Board of Trustees (BoT) and the National Caretaker Committee pledging adherence to court decisions and commitment to completing outstanding congresses ahead of a fresh national convention.

Speaking on Monday during the 85th meeting of the PDP Board of Trustees in Abuja, BoT Chairman, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, urged party members to prioritise peace and collective interest over personal ambitions.

Ohuabunwa acknowledged that the PDP had endured months of internal turbulence marked by leadership disagreements and legal confrontations but said the party remained standing due to its strong institutions and respect for constitutional processes.
He explained that delays in conducting party congresses were intentional, stressing that the decisions were guided by respect for ongoing judicial proceedings rather than negligence or inaction.
According to him, the party deliberately chose patience and legality, noting that history would ultimately recognise the PDP for upholding the rule of law during a challenging period.
The BoT chairman also welcomed recent judicial pronouncements, including the Ibadan Federal High Court ruling which affirmed the legitimacy of the Abdulrahman-led National Caretaker Committee. He called on party members at all levels to respect the judiciary and comply with lawful decisions.

Ohuabunwa cautioned against divisive statements and actions capable of weakening democratic institutions, emphasising that the moral strength of the BoT rests on fairness, balance and due process.
With most legal uncertainties now cleared, he said the focus must shift to reconciliation, rebuilding trust and preparing for orderly congresses that would lead to a credible national convention, adding that unity remains critical to the survival of the party.
In his remarks, Chairman of the PDP National Caretaker Committee, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, thanked members of the BoT for their consistent support, describing it as vital to the stability of the party at a critical moment.
Mohammed also expressed appreciation to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory for standing with the Caretaker Committee, noting that the backing had strengthened its resolve to reposition the party.
He said the festive period was over and that the committee was now ready to take decisive steps to fulfil its mandate of restoring order and direction within the PDP.
The caretaker chairman confirmed that the Ibadan court delivered a declaratory judgment in favour of the committee, insisting that the law was clear and that the party would continue to pursue justice through legal means.

He disclosed that a timetable for outstanding congresses in affected states would be released soon, describing it as a key step toward organising a seamless and inclusive national convention.
Mohammed described the PDP as a people-driven party with nationwide structures and verifiable records of governance, warning that the party could not afford complacency at such a critical stage.
Both leaders expressed confidence that ongoing reconciliation efforts and planned congresses would reposition the PDP as a strong and credible alternative in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Meanwhile, party leaders and stakeholders are currently holding a closed-door National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, with a large turnout of members from across the country.
