Eko Hot Blog reports that Hon. Olowa, who is also the Chairman of Lagos Conference 57, made the call while attending the NPC VITALREG NPC–Barnksforte Retreat held at Lakowe Lakes, Ibeju-Lekki.
Addressing participants at the retreat, Olowa stressed the importance of synergy among the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State and the NPC to improve birth registration and population data management.
“Effective collaboration between local governments and the National Population Commission is critical to deepening grassroots engagement and strengthening civil registration across Lagos State,” he said.
He also highlighted the recent flag-off of the electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (e-CRVS) initiative by Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, noting that the programme was launched in partnership with UNICEF, the NPC, and ALGON to ensure that every child born in Lagos State is officially captured in the national database.
“The e-CRVS initiative is a major step toward ensuring that no child is left undocumented, while also enhancing data-driven planning and development,” Olowa added.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the National Population Commission, Dr. Aminu Yusuf (Talban Wushishi), commended the Lagos State Government and Local Government Chairmen for their consistent support in strengthening civil registration and population data systems.
“The commitment of the Lagos State Government under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the continuous support of local government chairmen have significantly improved civil registration and vital statistics in the state,” Dr. Yusuf said.
The retreat provided a platform for stakeholders to review strategies, share best practices, and reinforce partnerships aimed at improving population data accuracy and service delivery at the grassroots level across Lagos State.
