The Presidency has explained that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent working visit to Ankara, Türkiye, was guided by clear economic and diplomatic objectives, with outcomes capable of boosting Nigeria–Türkiye bilateral trade to $5 billion and strengthening cooperation across key strategic sectors.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the clarification was provided on Thursday by the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, in a post on his X handle, where he reviewed the outcomes of the visit.

He noted that while public attention briefly shifted to a minor ceremonial issue during a guard inspection, the real substance of the trip lay in high-level engagements that produced tangible results.
According to Olusegun, the visit led to the signing of 9 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering defence, education, diplomacy, media, and economic cooperation.
He said the agreements align with the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on economic diversification, security reforms, and attracting foreign direct investment.
He explained that the trip was designed as a strategic working visit, not a symbolic one. Turkish officials and local media, he added, focused largely on the activation of the Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO), a bilateral framework meant to structure and sustain trade and investment flows between both countries.

Describing JETCO as one of the most important outcomes of the visit, Olusegun said it would open long-term opportunities for Nigerian exporters and investors by providing clearer pathways for market access, industrial collaboration, and trade expansion.
The Presidency also reaffirmed that Türkiye remains a key partner for Nigeria, particularly in defence manufacturing, infrastructure development, and industrial growth sectors central to Nigeria’s ongoing economic and security reforms.
Other agreements reached during the Ankara visit include military cooperation, export facilitation through halal quality infrastructure, academic and diplomatic training exchanges, diaspora engagement, media collaboration, and cooperation in social services.
“These frameworks represent structured cooperation, not ceremonial declarations,” Olusegun said, adding that implementation would progress alongside ongoing domestic reforms in the energy and investment policy sectors.
He urged Nigerians to focus on measurable outcomes rather than fleeting optics, stressing that the true value of international engagements lies in the economic, institutional, and strategic benefits they deliver.
The Presidency concluded that the Türkiye visit reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to long-term economic diplomacy and trade expansion, noting that the projected increase in bilateral trade signals renewed global confidence in Nigeria’s economic direction.
