Tinubu commended Gustavo Petro for convening the forum, noting that it comes at a time when the world is grappling with conflicts, economic shifts, and evolving geopolitical realities.
“We live in extraordinary times,” Tuggar said on behalf of the President, stressing that global crises regardless of where they occur have far-reaching consequences for developing nations.
The President emphasised the need for closer collaboration between Africa and Latin America, not only to confront shared challenges but also to redefine their position in what he described as an increasingly fragmented and unequal global system.
According to him, a united voice among Global South countries is key to pushing for fairer global structures and more effective international cooperation.

Highlighting Nigeria’s priorities, Tinubu pointed to sectors such as education, energy, agriculture, solid minerals, and technology as critical areas for partnership and investment.
He also reaffirmed Nigeria’s longstanding commitment to international cooperation, referencing the Technical Aid Corps programme, which has deployed skilled Nigerian professionals to Caribbean nations since 1987.
The President added that Nigeria is ready to deepen engagement with countries under the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, particularly in trade, healthcare, culture, and climate resilience.
The CELAC–Africa High-Level Forum, held from March 20 to March 21, 2026, brought together leaders and stakeholders from Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean, with a shared focus on strengthening cooperation and unlocking new development opportunities.
