- 100 nurses attended physically while 80 joined virtually across all HSC cadres
- Experts emphasised collaboration, accountability and patient safety in modern healthcare delivery
- Retreat featured lectures, medical error prevention sessions, financial planning and award presentations
Nurses in Lagos State Government hospitals have been urged to deepen collaboration with other healthcare professionals to achieve integrated and patient-centred care across the state.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the call was made during a two-day non-residential retreat organised for nurses under the Health Service Commission (HSC), where participants were encouraged to break professional barriers and embrace teamwork in service delivery.
Delivering a lecture titled “Breaking Professional Silos in Healthcare: The Nurse as a Connector,” Dr. Ogunyemi challenged nurses to see themselves as central figures within the health system.
“Healthcare can no longer operate in silos. When services are fragmented, patient outcomes suffer,” she said.
She explained that nurses play a strategic role in linking doctors, pharmacists, laboratory scientists and other allied professionals, stressing that collaboration is key to effective treatment and recovery.
The retreat attracted 100 nurses physically and 80 others virtually, cutting across all cadres within the HSC.
In her remarks, Permanent Secretary of the HSC, Dr. Cecilia Abimbola Mabogunje, charged nurses to remain vigilant and prioritise patient safety at all times.
“Modern healthcare demands collaboration. Nurses are custodians of patients and remain critical to improved outcomes,” she stated.
Also speaking, Director of Nursing Services, Nurse Adebukola Cole, delivered a lecture titled “Accountability and Shared Responsibilities in Integrated Care,” describing integrated care as the new frontier in Lagos health delivery.
“It is our patients, not their patients. We must remain accountable, professional and technology-driven in delivering care,” she urged.
Participants also attended sessions on medical error prevention and financial planning, alongside award presentations and the adoption of a retreat communiqué.
The retreat aligns with the THEMES Plus Agenda of the Lagos State Government, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and improving patient outcomes across the state.
