According to him, the investigation was initiated following a written petition submitted to the office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the command, Mr. Adegoke Fayoade, alleging the illegal adulteration of a popular engine oil brand.
The case was subsequently referred to the Zonal Anti-Piracy Unit for discreet investigation. Detectives from the unit apprehended the suspect, who reportedly confessed to coordinating the production and importation of adulterated engine oil products from China before distributing them to various states.

Afolayan said intelligence-led raids carried out in Imo, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, and Ogun states led to the recovery of 280 gallons of the suspected adulterated engine oil.
The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) later examined the seized products and confirmed that they failed to meet the required Nigerian Industrial Standards, supporting the allegations.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Adegoke Fayoade, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting consumers and legitimate businesses, while ensuring that individuals involved in economic crimes are brought to justice.
The command urged members of the public to report related complaints through its official phone lines and social media platforms.
