The debate over U.S. immigration enforcement reached a boiling point on Sunday as Tom Homan, the official overseeing border security, dismissed allegations of racial profiling by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
EkoHotBlog reports that Homan asserted that agents operate based on “reasonable suspicion” and described claims of systemic profiling as “unreasonable.”
Jeffries Ties DHS Funding To Reform
While Homan defended the agency’s conduct, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries signaled a firm stance on Capitol Hill. Speaking on “Face the Nation,” the New York Democrat emphasized that Democrats would not budge on funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) until “common sense” reforms are implemented. Jeffries stressed that the current framework requires a “dramatic change” before any spending bill moves forward.
