The Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, has reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with state governments to ensure education policies are not only properly designed but effectively implemented across the country.
Eko Hot Blog reports that he made the pledge while commending the Committee of States’ Commissioners of Education in Nigeria (COSCEN) for organising its first peer-learning webinar, describing the initiative as a timely effort to strengthen collaboration between the Federal Government and the states in addressing the challenge of out-of-school children.

According to the minister, reducing the number of children out of school requires more than policy pronouncements. He stressed the need for coordinated reforms, shared responsibility, and evidence-based strategies at both federal and state levels. He added that state-level education reforms must align with national frameworks to achieve lasting results.
Dr. Alausa also acknowledged the role of the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education in supporting targeted interventions, noting that improved data planning, continuous knowledge sharing, and harmonised implementation are key to boosting school enrolment, retention, and equity.
In his remarks, COSCEN Chairman, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, said the peer-learning platform was created to promote collaboration among state commissioners of education and ensure their programmes complement federal initiatives. He explained that the goal is to allow states to exchange practical solutions that can deliver measurable improvements nationwide.
The inaugural webinar will feature the Commissioner for Education in Gombe State, Aishatu Umar Maigari, who is expected to share the state’s data-driven strategies that have improved school enrolment and could serve as models for other states.
Also scheduled to speak is the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education, Dr. Muhammad Sani Idris, who will outline how federal programmes are supporting states in expanding access to education.

Dr. Leo Ebenezer of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, who serves as National Coordinator, said the webinar scheduled for February 25, 2026, via Microsoft Teams aims to strengthen peer learning and drive coordinated reforms to tackle Nigeria’s out-of-school crisis more effectively.
Organisers say the initiative reflects a broader effort by federal and state authorities to present a united front in ensuring that every Nigerian child has access to inclusive, equitable, and quality education.
