From the early hours of the event, the atmosphere was festive. The venue was tastefully decorated, while soft music filled the air as guests exchanged pleasantries and shared memories of their encounters with the celebrant over the decades.
For many, the occasion was more than a birthday; it was a reunion and an opportunity to publicly acknowledge Professor Taiwo’s impact.

Speaking during the event, Professor Olugbenga Adenuga Taiwo, the celebrant’s immediate younger brother, described him as a stabilising force within the family.
According to him, Professor Taiwo has consistently played a fatherly role, especially after the passing of their parents.
He noted that the celebrant’s sense of responsibility, transparency and accountability has earned him respect not only among relatives but also among associates.
“He is the kind of person who does not look away when there is a need,” he said. “He supported me at critical moments in my life and has done the same for many others. His life is a lesson in responsibility and generosity.”
An in-law of the family, Mrs Sade, who travelled from the United States to attend the ceremony, expressed appreciation for the warmth she has experienced from the Taiwo family over the years. She described the celebrant as a symbol of ethics, excellence and humour.

“I could not miss this milestone,” she said. “Professor Taiwo represents integrity. Even after the passing of the family’s patriarch and matriarch, the bond has remained strong. That unity is something rare and admirable.”
The event also drew members of the Rotary Club, where Professor Taiwo has been an active and influential member. Rotarians who spoke at the celebration highlighted his contributions to humanitarian causes and leadership within the organisation.
Mr Layi Abidoye noted that Professor Taiwo served as a charter president and later as assistant governor within the Rotary structure, adding that his tenure was marked by dedication and consistency.

“He embodies the Rotary principle of service above self,” Abidoye stated. “At 70, we are not just celebrating longevity, but impact.”
Similarly, Past President Olubunmi Oguntade of the Rotary Club of Gbagada described the celebrant as dependable and selfless, saying he has remained committed to community service without seeking personal recognition.
Family tributes formed one of the emotional highpoints of the ceremony. The celebrant’s senior brother, Otunba Shola Adenuga, reflected on the day of Professor Taiwo’s birth, recalling historical events that coincided with it and describing him as one of the most energetic members of the family.
“He has always been vibrant and compassionate,” Adenuga said. “Even at 70, he remains active and engaged. His presence has helped to keep the family united.”
The spiritual segment of the event featured a sermon delivered by Pastor Paul, who reminded guests of the importance of gratitude and humility. He emphasised that reaching the age of 70 is a privilege that should inspire deeper reflection and service to humanity.
Drawing from biblical teachings, the cleric urged the celebrant and attendees alike to recognise God as the giver of life and sustainer of success. Special prayers were offered for Professor Taiwo’s continued health, strength and wisdom.
Adding another perspective, Tunde Tani of Epe Kingdom shared his admiration for the celebrant. “As you can see from the level of people here, professors, captains of industry, it shows the man has been impactful,” he said.

“To be a professor requires knowledge, sacrifice, and influence, and Professor Taiwo has demonstrated all three. I first met him during his son’s wedding in Delta State, and since then, we’ve remained friends. He cuts barriers and touches lives wherever he goes.”
As the formal proceedings progressed, goodwill messages continued to pour in from associates who could not attend physically. Many described the celebrant as a mentor, counsellor and bridge-builder whose influence extends beyond academic and professional circles.
The celebration concluded with the cutting of the birthday cake, accompanied by applause and cheers from guests. Photographs were taken as friends and well-wishers gathered around the celebrant, capturing moments that reflected both joy and gratitude.

For attendees, the event was not merely about marking a 70th birthday. It was a testament to a life lived with purpose, a life that has touched family members, professional colleagues and community groups alike.
As guests departed late into the evening, the consensus remained clear: Professor Olukayode Taiwo’s 70th birthday was not only a personal milestone but a collective celebration of legacy, service and enduring family bonds.
